The hotel does run a shopping shuttle to downtown (small cost) and there are many sightseeing excursions available for purchase. The Mayan Ruins at Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum are a must. We rented a car for the week which gave us a lot of freedom to explore on our own. The roads are greatly improved. Just have to make sure you don't speed!!!
